By June, the group had formed a massive herd on the southern banks of the Grumeti River, where hungry crocodiles congregate beneath the murky pools in anticipation of a feast consisting of wildebeest and zebra. Rutting season, or mating season, has begun as well, and males’ booming bellows and grunts during this time of year are indicative of their high testosterone levels as they pursue their preferred females.
Large herds can be seen splashing through the channels and pools of the croc-infested waters at the beginning of June, but the crossings of the Grumeti River tend to pick up steam around that time.
Sundowners, often known as “happy hour” in the African bush, typically cap off afternoon wildlife drives, and they become a regular feature of your safari. There is nowhere better to sip a cool drink as the sun sets than by a waterhole, where a variety of wildlife gathers to partake in the refreshing beverage themselves. You are likely to come across some migratory animals here as well, as the migrating herds are traveling far and wide in search of fresher pastures and water.
Modern luxury is available at Singita Faru Faru Lodge, which perfectly complements its stunning surroundings. Perfectly positioned on an incline, with a view of the Grumeti River, this area is a part of the famous wildebeest migration that takes place in late May and early June. It is located within the private Grumeti Reserve concession, which spans approximately 350,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness within the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. The reserve is a fantastic year-round destination for safari tourists due to its abundance of animals.
The Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp provides visitors with fantastic views of the massive wildebeest migration that passes through in June since it is located directly on the banks of a tributary of the Grumeti River. All 10 of the camp’s luxurious tented accommodations offer views of the seasonal hippo pods, which are attracted by the quantity of game that the water’s proximity brings in every year. Due to the camp’s unique location, guests may enjoy up-close wildlife viewing experiences and possibly even get a unique sighting of the black and white colobus monkey, which is unique to the Serengeti.
Located on the grassy Serengeti plains of the private Grumeti Reserve, forming part of the exciting great wildebeest migration route, Sabora Tented Camp is another incredible property from the Singita group, providing guests with ring side seats to the spectacle. Taking on a more modern approach to the elements of a romantic tented safari, Singita Sabora sets a new standard for luxury adventures under canvas. This, combined with some of the most prized game viewing in Africa, makes Singita Sabora a great choice for the discerning safari traveler.
