On the shore of Lake Tanganyika, the forest of Gombe National Park is one of the nicest places in Africa to track chimpanzees. Originally home by Jane in the 1960s, the chimpanzees of Gombe is now from the world`s longest running study of wild animal population seeing these great apes, which are our closest living cousins, in the wild is really remember able experience.
Gombe`s chimpanzees are the main attraction although the park is a home to tropes of glove baboons that are usually found on the lakeshore. Several other monkey species are also present, like the endangered Uganda red colobus, which are some times hunted by chimpanzees.
Gombe is the shore of lake Tanganyika, which is the world’s second largest freshwater lake by volume and the longest on the planet at 675km/420mi. within the park, thirteen streams that flow down from the forested escapement to the sandy beach. That swim out into the lake to look back at how the forest`s slopes climb the step Rift Valley escarpment.
The reason why most people visit Gombe is to track chimpanzees in their natural habitant, and this is the most popular activity in the park. Chimpanzees tracking aside, guided walks alone the forest`s paths offer an opportunity to see other primates and birds, space and to enjoy the lovely scenery.
Gombe has a very relatively cloudless Dry season from May to October and the humidity, stormy Wet season from November to April. Due to the proximity of the equator, temperatures are usually uniform throughout the year (around 20oC/75oF during the day and 180C/64oF at night). much water can get dumped when the it rains, that it usually arrives late in the day but does not last for long .
The chimpanzees tend to be on the lower slopes of the escarpments from July to October the middle and the end of the dry season is the best time to track chimpanzees. hiking in the forest is best when the tracks is farm and dry. by construct in the wet season November to April the forest path tends to be slippery under foot, and it always requires a lot of effort to find chimps.
